What is a Quartz Banger?
A quartz banger is a style of nails inserted into the water pipe of a dab rig. It allows the user to put the concentrates inside and heat them, delivering better flavors than other heating methods. The construction of the banger usually includes a bucket, where your concentrates are heated, and then a joint, which connects to your water pipe. With the growing popularity of dabbing, the demand for better dab tools has dramatically increased. Although quartz may look like glass, it is a solid crystal that can withstand high amounts of heat and is difficult to break. Moreover, the quartz nail offers a more pure flavor to your dab compared to other materials.
How Does a Quartz Banger Work?
A quartz banger works by preserving the heat produced by a blazing torch, which vaporizes the concentrates in the bucket of the banger. Then the user inhales the resulting vapor through the elbow of the quartz banger into the water pipe. In most cases, a quartz banger is used with a Carb Cap or Terp Pearls for better vaporization results.
Why Do You Need a Quartz Banger?
-
Durability & Heat Resistance
Being highly heat-resistant, a quartz banger is more durable than bangers made of other materials. Glass bangers may shatter if overheated, and ceramic would break when heated in a spot regularly. However, quartz will not get damaged even if you heat it to a very high temperature or heat it continuously in the same place.
-
Better Flavor
An important reason why quartz bangers have gone viral in the last few years is their tastelessness. There is no other chemical released from the quartz when you heat it, which allows you to taste the original flavor of your concentrates.
-
Powerful Heat Retention
One shortcoming of glass or titanium bangers is that they can't retain heat very well. But quartz does an excellent job in this respect. In addition, the degree of heat retention varies from the thickness of the quartz.
-
Amazing Airflow Restriction
Several water pipes for concentrates have excessive airflow to take a dab for an extended period. Using a quartz banger is ideal for limiting airflow to increase the general function since several designs have small holes.
-
Easy Cleaning
Quartz bangers can take up high heat doesn't mean they can't be used effectively on low heat. Using a quartz banger with low heat will make it easy to clean the remains. So with proper cleaning and maintenance, a quartz banger will look as good as new.
Types of Quartz Bangers
Standard Angled Top Quartz Banger
An angled top banger is one of the original designs to hit the market, which offers a different angle position of the carb cap to direct the flow of the concentrates to the back of the banger. The slant makes the banger look aesthetic and provides the proper heat retention for small and medium-sized dabs. The size also makes it easy to clean after a session and doesn’t require much maintenance. However, the angle requires the right carb cap to fit, and you have to hold the cap to keep it in place.
Standard Flat Top Quartz Banger
It is the most common quartz banger that you can see in online head shops. It's what most dabbers choose because it offers better functionality and possibility due to the bucket size. What's more, this banger is compatible with the widest range of carb cap styles and is excellent for virtually any sized dabs.
Flat Top Quartz Banger with Round Bottom
This type of quartz banger features a wide flat top and a deep bucket whose bottom is round. It offers the benefits of a standard flat banger, but it gives even more. Some people prefer this style because it does an excellent job at creating a central point for dabs to slide down, so the heat can be concentrated in one place for better flavor.
Terp Slurper Quartz Banger
A terp slurper banger is a new design on the old method of dabbing. While buckets have been prevailing for several years, this style of the bucket helps ensure less wasted material regardless of the size of the dab consumed. Similar to a traditional bucket, the terp slurper banger has an additional tube leading down to an open tray. Small slits at the bottom of the tube let airflow continuously flow as the user inhales, creating a vacuum that constantly “percolates” the concentrates.
Thermal Banger
The thermal banger is an upgrade to the standard option. With a thermal banger, you can have more control over the temperature. With the concentrates kept in a smaller area, less air will make contact with them. So once heated, the concentrates will retain heat better and causing a longer and much more enjoyable dabbing experience.
Diamond Knot Banger
Essentially, diamond knot bangers are a variation of thermal bangers. However, it is designed with a unique center portion that traps the heat efficiently and keeps the internal temperature of the banger higher than average. Moreover, the design enables the concentrates to vaporize off of a larger surface area. So it can tackle those big hits a little bit better than the average bangers.
Core Reactor Banger
A core reactor quartz banger has a similar design to a traditional quartz banger, but it includes an extra piece of solid quartz in the bottom of the banger bucket. This added quartz offers better heat retention and vaporization of your oils and waxes. It puts your concentrates in contact with more quartz to ensure none of your concentrates go to waste.
How To Use a Quartz Banger?
Step 1: Heat your quartz banger with a torch before placing any concentrates inside. It takes about 30-45 seconds for the banger to glow. Then allow it to cool for 45-50 seconds.
Step 2: Once your quartz banger has been heated and cooled down properly, you can use a dab tool to transfer your concentrates into the banger. Put the concentrates at the base of your banger so they won’t accumulate on the sides. The amount of concentrate to be consumed depends on the size and shape of the banger.
Step 3: Put your carb cap on the top of the banger if you have one. It will create a better vapor diffusion, making your dab roll better and delivering more satisfying hits.
Step 4: Inhale and enjoy. Remove the cap and clean the banger when you are done.
How To Clean a Quartz Banger?
The most efficient way to keep your quartz banger in brand new condition is to give it a quick clean after every dab and give it more thorough cleanings about every couple of weeks. Here's a step-by-step guide for each type of cleaning:
Cleaning Guide 1: Simple Cleaning after Every Dab
It's a good idea to prepare some Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol when using a quartz banger. After each dab, when the quartz banger is still warm but not too hot, dip one end of the Q-tip in the alcohol and swab out all the residue in the banger. Then use the dry end of the Q-tip to wipe up the alcohol and dry the banger. If you do this process after every dab, your banger will always be in excellent working condition, and you won't need to do deep cleans too often.
Cleaning Guide 2: Regular Deep Cleaning
Even if you have done a good job of swabbing out your banger after every dab, you still need to do a deep clean at intervals. Here's what you'll need for deep cleaning:
- Warm water
- Zip-top plastic bag
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Kosher salt
- Q-tips
Step 1: Soak your quartz banger in the cleaning solution
Pour the isopropyl alcohol into the plastic bag. Ensure the amount is enough to submerge your banger fully. Then add 3-5 tablespoons of kosher salt inside. Shake it to mix up the cleaning solution, then drop your banger into the bag. Soak it for 24 hours. Shake the plastic bag every once in a while to stir the cleaning solution, and it will start breaking off the big chunks of residue.
Step 2: Rinse your quartz banger with warm water
After 24 hours of soaking, carefully take it out of the alcohol-salt solution. Discard the solution. Rinse the banger with warm water and wash off as much of the residue as possible.
Step 3: Swab your banger
Use a Q-tip to swab out the inside of your banger. The alcohol soak should have softened all the dab residue, so this step focuses on wiping off the stickier, more tenacious gunk.
Step 4: Rinse your quartz banger again
Give your banger another rinse in warm water. This time, you will be able to get rid of all the remaining residue.
Step 5: Dry the banger
Finally, use a clean paper towel to dry the banger as much as you can, then let it sit out until it's thoroughly dried. In this way, your banger will be as good as new, and get ready for your next dabbing.
